Difference between Indian Wedding Cards and Indian Invitation Cards

Many people wonder what is the main difference between Indian wedding cards and Indian invitation cards. In this article we will explain which terminology is correct for what.

Indian Wedding Cards

Usually, people will say or search for Indian wedding cards or Indian wedding invites for their wedding invitation cards. Usually they will have a number of events, primarily being their wedding, followed by other pre and post wedding invites. Within the Indian wedding cards bracket, they will invite their guests to their wedding (which is the point of this card), which will also be accompanied with any other events that they want to invite their guests to as part of the wedding celebrations.

Indian Invitation Cards

Whilst there are plenty of similarities between Indian wedding cards and Indian invitation cards and there are many overlaps, including Indian invitation cards being ordered for the wedding ceremony, these are usually more generic and can be used for a variety of different events, which are not limited to the wedding. Hindu Wedding Cards

Hindu wedding card are usually purchased to invite guests to the auspicious occasion of their wedding. However, as well as the Hindu wedding ceremony, guests may also be invited to other functions (either pre wedding or post wedding), including a reception party, a mehndi night (also known as haldi or turmeric ceremony), an engagement party, a civil ceremony, a Sagai, an evening of raas garba (also known as a sangeet ceremony) and a Ganesh Puja. Muslim Wedding Cards

Muslim wedding cards (also known as Islamic wedding cards and sometimes as Pakistani wedding cards) are also purchased to invite their special family and friends to join them in the celebration of their big day. The marriage ceremony is known as the Nikah. Once the wedding has been completed, it is usually followed up with a Walima, which is often referred to as a wedding reception. Sikh Wedding Cards

Sikh wedding cards (also referred to as Punjabi wedding cards) are given to guests inviting them to join them in celebrating their upcoming wedding events. As well as the wedding, a Jaggo ( literally translates to “wake-up”) party and wedding reception party is also very common. The Jaggo party usually takes place the night before the wedding, whereas the wedding reception party takes place usually on the same day of the wedding, in the evening.
