Hindu wedding card cost in India

Wedding Card Cost India CardFusion

One question that customers like to ask is how much do wedding cards cost in India.  There is no clear cut answer as it primarily depends on your requirements.  We have seen cards available in India for as little as 10 rupees, which equates to around 10p (complete invitation card with envelope and printed inserts).  We have also seen Indian wedding cards that cost well over 3000 rupees, which equates to around £30 each.  We feel that the average price for Indian wedding cards from India is around the £1.50 mark.  However, when looking at these costs, there are other things to take into consideration.

  • If you are purchasing invitation cards online from India, always double check the postage costs and see if any customs duty / VAT is applicable.
  • Check the lead times (proofing and delivery)
  • Does the supplier have any online reviews?
  • Do you have any relatives in India that can liaise with your invitation supplier?
  • Can the supplier send you any samples of your desired card?
  • If you needed to order additional cards, can they send more to you if required? What are the costs associated with this? What are the timescales associated with this?
  • What guarantees can they give regarding the quality of the card, print and ensuring the information printed is correct? What will happen if the invites you receive are not up to a certain standard?
  • Can they provide you with a point of contact within their company who can guide and assist you (preferably a single point of contact)?

Bearing all of this in mind, there are also other aspects to consider. Many customers decide to go to India to do the majority of their shopping, which includes clothes (for the bride, groom, family members) and the wedding cards.

You have to take into consideration the time element. Say you are going to India for two weeks. Out of the two weeks that you are there, if you need to spend 2 or 3 days getting your Indian wedding cards sorted, is this really the best utilisation of your time?

We can break the above down a little bit further. Say within the UK, the Indian wedding cards cost £2.49 each and you need 100 cards, that’s a total of £249. If you find that the company you are working with also does all of their designing and printing in the UK, there are added benefits to this. You can contact them during normal working hours – some may even allow contact in the evenings. If any issues arise from your side or your suppliers side, they are a phone call away. If needed, you can arrange a face-to-face meeting with them to go through everything (your invitation wordings etc). They may be able to remind you if you have missed something, or may be able to offer suggestions.

Now say you compare costs to with wedding cards in India. Say the wedding cards in India cost £1.39 each, which would be a total of £139 for 100 invites, a reduction of £110 in comparison to the UK supplier. One thing to bear in mind is that 100 invites will weigh around 6kg when packaged properly (to avoid damages whilst in transit).

To put this into context, when people usually go to India for wedding shopping, one of the main reasons they go is due to the significant savings that are available for Indian clothing. People do not go to India to buy a wedding outfit. They go to India to get outfits for all of their functions, they get outfits for their fiancé, outfits for their parents, siblings and even friends alike. An outfit in the UK can cost around say £300 (they can cost a lot more and a lot less – this is just an example). A similar outfit, if not the same, will cost around £80 in India, which is a reduction of £220. If people buy say 10 outfits from India (and they negotiate well), they can get a reduction of over £2000 in comparison to UK prices.

Whilst you are in India, you don’t really want to be visiting the wedding invitation card company every other day to check the proofs. This is not the best use of your time especially when you can focus on other more cost saving tasks. Even once you have all your wedding outfits (and any other wedding items that you need ready and sorted), you can spend the rest of your time in India relaxing. You don’t want to bring back a 6kg box of Indian wedding cards within your suitcases, when you can utilise this space for other items that are much more costly in the UK.

If you decide that you will not go to India to purchase your invites, but will order them online from India, as mentioned earlier, get a price for the shipping costs, timescales, and duties / VAT.
